Himeji Castle

We offer a guided tour of Himeji Castle. Himeji Castle & Kokoen

We offer a guided tour of Himeji Castle and Koko-en. Koko-en, the garden of Himeji Castle’s West Palace Site, has a reputation for being a beautiful space where Himeji Castle and nature are in harmony. Enjoy the sounds of waterfalls, chirping birds, beautiful trees, and seasonal wildflowers as you walk slowly through the garden.
You can have lunch at Restaurant , Kassui-ken serving Himeji’s famous conger eel dishes, or experience tea ceremony at Souju-an in an authentic sukiya-style building.

*Reservations cannot be made in advance at Kassui-ken and Souju-an. Meals are not included in the tour fee.

Shoshazan Engyo-ji Temple

We offer a guided tour of Shoshazan Engyo-ji Temple. Mt. Shoshazan is a low mountain 371m above sea level located northwest of Himeji City. Engyo-ji Temple is also called the Hieizan of the western area of Hyogo prefecture, and the magnificent temple complex of Shōshazan Engyo-ji Temple, the separate head temple of the Tendai sect, is a sight to behold. This ancient temple is said to be a “hidden gem” according to reviews on overseas travel websites. It is a popular tourist spot where visitors can enjoy various activities throughout the year, such as ascetic practices, sutra copying, and vegetarian cuisine.

Important information

  • There are no elevators in Himeji Castle. Please wear comfortable walking shoes.
  • Tickets can only be purchased on the day of the tour. (Group discounts are available for groups of 30 or more.)
  • Eating and drinking are not permitted in the castle. However, beverages in water bottles with lids or plastic bottles may be consumed inside the building. Please be especially careful of heat stroke during the hot and humid rainy season and summer months.
  • It gets very cold inside the Main Keep during the winter. It is recommended to bring thick socks.

Note that the policy does not apply in case of stormy weather or other circumstances beyond the customer’s control.
